HOI 2020 / 2021 postponed due to COVID-19

2020

The 2020 HOI was planned and ready when all international travel stopped due to Covid. Janet Anthony had traveled throughout Haiti in January and February of 2020 to audition and select the orchestra. Repertoire was selected and digitally disseminated to the chosen participants. A special commissioned work was completed by Haitian composer Sidney Guillaume, and airplane tickets for the faculty purchased (and fortunately refunded). An older Beckstein Grand piano was procured and refurbished and sent to Miami for delivery to Cap Haitien on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship. Then the shutdown happened.

2021

The 2021 HOI would have fulfilled the planned musical programming of the previous year, but due to the continuing pandemic, did not get to a real planning phase. We are eager to return to Haiti as soon as conditions are safe for both our faculty and our Haitian friends.
